Washington is the only US state that was named after a President. It became a state in 1889 and the 42nd state to join the Union. It shares borders with two other states: Oregon and Idaho. The capital city of Washington is Olympia but Seattle is the most populated city. In fact, almost 60% of the Washington population lives in Seattle. The state is known as the largest apple producer in the US. Washington is also home to several marathon races that gets participation from the avid marathon runners annually.
